SACRAMENTO + BAY AREA MESHCORE

💧WATER

Wireless Assistant for Telemetry & Environmental Reporting · v0.27.1

💧WATER is a regional 900 MHz LoRa MeshCore assistant. It answers diagnostics and weather requests, enriches route information with CoreScope, monitors the two-way bridge, and watches RF conditions with a receive-only RTL-SDR.

The name WATER also nods to the operator's amateur-radio callsign, W6TER.

Compact updates follow each approximately two-second capture; no raw IQ or packet content leaves the receiver.

Regional landmark: Carpenter Hill is Sacramento County's high point at approximately 831 ft (253 m). WATER's nearby Folsom receive antennas are at 670 ft (204 m).

The RTL-SDR is a passive RF observatory: it measures relative spectrum energy and noise near both profiles to help identify activity, congestion, and interference. The center artifact is excluded from peak calculations. It does not decode packets or prove message or bridge delivery.

REGIONAL LINK

Bridge channels

#sfsacbridge

Authenticated group text on the declared channels is bridged in both directions between the SMF and Bay mesh profiles.

Direct messages, adverts, binary/control packets, paths, traces, and ACKs are not bridged. This list is a reviewed declaration; USB telemetry reports bridge health but cannot read back the firmware whitelist.

CORESCOPE

Known decrypted channels

SMF is separate from the Bay Area union. Exact configured names are preserved; only identical names across OAK, SFO, and SJC are merged. Message content is not included.

History & roadmap

Direct WCmesh MQTT is the planned low-latency observation source. CoreScope remains useful for validated history, indexed packet correlation, route analysis, and regional summaries. The bot will use both through separate read-only adapters instead of recreating CoreScope.

Planned regional views use SMF for the Sacramento side and Bay for OAK, SFO, and SJC. Missing observer sightings will remain inconclusive—not proof of failed delivery.

Coming next

PlannedTime-limited channel bridge leases

Let an authenticated operator temporarily add a reviewed channel or packet class with direction, start and expiry, airtime limits, audit attribution, automatic rollback, and loop prevention. Dashboard approval comes before over-the-air requests.

ImplementedNearest repeaters

Version 0.27.0 accepts an explicit ZIP and uses validated local directory caches to list nearby named repeaters and straight-line distance without guessing the sender's location or claiming RF reachability.

NextGuarded radio configuration

Authenticated staging for name and RF changes through a narrow privileged helper, with read-back verification, audit history, explicit confirmation, and rollback.

In progressPropagation and bridge delivery advisor

Dashboard correlation is active for locally heard declared bridge-channel messages. Next: direct MQTT evidence, historical traces, and operator-selected packets; never claim delivery from missing observers or auto-repeat without separate approval.

NextDirect WCmesh MQTT intake

Read-only, topic-allow-listed ingestion for low-latency observations, normalized into a bounded local cache with packet-hash deduplication and loop prevention.

PlannedCoreScope regional analytics

Use SMF and Bay groupings (OAK, SFO, SJC) for historical reach, observer coverage, route quality, and bridge-stage analysis.

PlannedGuarded module controls

Authenticated dashboard toggles with confirmation, validation, audit records, health checks, and automatic rollback.

PlannedAdditional bot radios

Explicitly configured USB or IP radios with independent identity, channel, and health validation; no automatic radio reconfiguration.

ResearchRegional public-information services

Wildfire incidents, smoke and air quality, traffic, and unambiguous town-name weather through isolated cache workers and airtime-conscious replies.

Version history
